Dryer Vent Inspection
A quick airflow and code check with the paperwork to prove it's right.
Learn moreA lint-packed dryer vent is invisible until it costs you — long dry cycles, a hot laundry room, and a real fire hazard building behind the wall. We do the full job: disconnect, brush, HEPA-vacuum the run, and reconnect with a fresh clamp, so the dryer breathes freely again and cycles drop noticeably. As a hearth-and-venting company, we treat the dryer vent with the same care we give a flue. Once a year suits most households, and it's one of the simplest safety wins in the house.
A dryer vent looks like the simplest thing in the house, which is precisely why most get cleaned badly. A leaf-blower jammed into the wall cap, a quick rod-and-run, a "looks clear" called from the door — that's the industry standard, and we built our name by refusing it. We clean dryer vents the way we clean six-figure chimney systems: scoped, measured, documented, and proven. Same crew, same exacting standard, on every dryer vent we clean.
Here's what compacted lint actually does. It chokes the exhaust, so the dryer grinds through two and three cycles to finish one load, baking the heating element and shortening the life of an appliance you paid real money for. It traps the moisture that should be leaving the house, backing it up as humidity into the laundry room and feeding mildew. And — the part nobody likes to say out loud — superheated lint behind stalled airflow is one of the leading causes of residential fire. The U.S. Fire Administration ties roughly 2,900 home fires a year to clothes dryers, with failure to clean the number-one factor. Premium isn't a luxury here; it's the margin between a clean run and a claim.
Our process is deliberate. We open the system at both ends, pull the appliance, and run a counter-rotating rotary brush with a simultaneous air-whip through the full duct — transition, in-wall run, every elbow, and the exterior or roof termination. A HEPA-filtered vacuum captures the debris instead of scattering it through your living space. Where the run is long, multi-elbow, or roof-terminated, we treat it as the harder job it is rather than pretend the easy method reaches it. Then we measure: an anemometer reading on the exhaust before and after, so the result isn't an opinion — it's a number you keep.
What sets the Space Fireplace Services job apart is the finish. We re-seat the dryer tight to the wall without crushing the transition, swap a kinked foil hose for code-compliant semi-rigid aluminum if we find one, confirm the exterior damper opens fully on airflow and seals when off, and leave the termination guarded against birds and rodents. You get a written airflow certificate and before/after photo documentation — the kind of record a discerning homeowner, property manager, or insurer actually respects.
This hub also covers the heavier cousins of a standard clean for the clients who need them: deep cleaning of packed, long, or roof-run ducts; rooftop dryer vent cleaning from the jack down; lint-trap and blower-housing cleaning inside the cabinet where fine lint slips past the screen; commercial, laundromat, and multi-unit stacked-riser exhaust cleaning; and emergency same-day clearing of a fully blocked vent throwing no-dry or overheat faults. Whatever the configuration, the standard doesn't move.
Because Space Fireplace Services is a design-led studio, you get one craftsmanship benchmark on every job — not the luck of the draw on whichever subcontractor was free. We schedule tight windows, arrive in branded vehicles, protect the floors, and clean up completely. The premium isn't in the price tag; it's in the airflow number we hand you, and in the fact that you don't think about this vent again until the next scheduled service.
Check the full duct run and exterior vent.
Power-brush + vacuum lint from every elbow.
Confirm airflow meets spec at the exterior.
Note any crushed/long runs that need correction.
We've worked on 1,000+ homes over 10+ years. Dryer vents run on the same routine as our fireplace and chimney work: a written quote, photos of the run before and after, and the warranty in writing.
Full-run cleaning, every elbow to the exterior
Power-brush + vacuum, not just the trap
Airflow verified after cleaning
Faster drying + lower fire risk
A lint-choked dryer vent is a fire hazard the same way a dirty flue is, so it gets the same crews and the same standard: licensed and insured, with every run photographed before and after. We're the team you call when you want it done right the first time — no rotating subcontractors, no upsell pressure, no surprises. Same techs, same trucks, same standard.

Once a year covers an average household, and more often if you have a long or winding duct run, use the dryer heavily, or keep pets. A telling sign: when a normal load suddenly needs two cycles to dry, the vent is already restricted and past due.
Watch for drying times that keep stretching, a dryer or laundry room that runs hot, a musty or burning smell, no visible flow at the exterior flap, and lint gathering around the outside vent. If that flap stays shut while the dryer runs, the duct is clearly blocked.
It is. Lint is highly combustible, and U.S. fire departments respond to roughly 13,000-15,000 dryer fires a year, with failure to clean named as the leading cause. The mechanism is restricted airflow: it makes the dryer overheat, and that overheating is the actual ignition path.
We brush and vacuum lint through the full duct run, clear and check the exterior flap, and confirm airflow is restored. The starting price covers a standard run; very long ducts, rooftop terminations, bird nests, or crushed or disconnected sections push it higher.
Emptying the lint screen every load is necessary, but it never reaches the duct, which is where the dangerous buildup forms, and a surprising amount of lint slips past the screen into the duct over time. The duct itself needs periodic cleaning with a brush kit that a household vacuum simply can't match.
